ARTIST'S STATEMENT

Art is a compulsion for me, as natural and needful as breathing. My work mostly celebrates places I have experienced, both natural and urban, attempting to communicate the spirit of place by means of light, colour, texture and line. I enjoy working in watercolours, oils and acrylics, each of which allows certain magical things to happen which are unique to that medium. My paintings are not literal, but are faithful to the essence of the subject. I believe paintings should be a celebration of life, spirit, light and colour. Painting "plein air" is one of my joys in life when weather and opportunity permit.
